Problem

Ball State University was renovating an aging residence hall from the top down. Part of this complete building upgrade included two 8 story cabled traction passenger elevators and a one 8 story cabled traction service elevator. A main goal of this residence hall upgrade was increased accessibility for disabled students and ADA compliance.

Our Solution

Even though it was an existing building, nearly all existing elevator equipment was replaced with new. Heavy duty buttons were utilized. The new car operating panel and emergency phone are easy to use and are placed much lower to the floor than the old style elevator button panel, ensuring access for individuals with limited mobility and for those using wheel chairs. Passing chimes and floor annunciators help passengers with visual impairment. The service elevator was upgraded with heavy duty cab, and pad hooks to prevent bumping and scraping of moving material against the cab wall. The installation took 8 months and was completed in 2012.
