What to Expect From
Our Elevator Careers

Job Requirements

Elevator careers at Murphy Elevator involve maintaining, repairing, modernizing, and supporting complex mechanical and electrical systems. Technicians work on equipment that must perform reliably under constant use. The job requires attention to detail, strong problem-solving skills, and a consistent commitment to safety procedures.

Responsibilities

Daily responsibilities depend on experience level and assignment. Work may include scheduled preventive maintenance, responding to service calls, assisting with modernization projects, or supporting new elevator and escalator installations. Tasks are planned and documented to support accuracy and system reliability.

Conditions & Communication

Technicians work in varied conditions, including machine rooms, hoistways, rooftops, and occupied buildings. This work demands focus and discipline, especially in environments where equipment downtime affects building operations. Clear communication with supervisors, dispatch staff, and fellow technicians plays a key role in keeping work organized and efficient.

ONGOING EDUCATION

Training & Skill Development

Murphy Elevator supports elevator careers through structured training and ongoing education. Technicians receive formal instruction covering mechanical systems, electrical components, safety practices, and applicable codes. This training builds a solid foundation for working safely and effectively in the field.
Learning continues throughout a technician’s career. New equipment, updated codes, and changing building requirements require technicians to stay informed and adaptable. At the same time, many buildings continue to rely on older elevator systems. Murphy Elevator places value on understanding both modern and legacy equipment, allowing technicians to develop broad technical knowledge.
Hands-on experience is a core part of skill development. Technicians work alongside experienced professionals, gaining practical insight into troubleshooting, diagnostics, and repair methods. As skills grow, technicians take on more responsibility and more complex assignments.

Leadership remains accessible and experienced. Questions are addressed directly, and support is available when challenges arise in the field. This structure helps technicians build confidence in their work and decision-making.
